Safe Camp
Providing Supervised Outdoor Shelter and Support for Unsheltered Residents
Safe Camp, part of the Nevada Cares Campus and operated by the Washoe County Human Services Agency (HSA), offers a supervised outdoor option for individuals experiencing homelessness who are unable to access indoor shelter. The program provides a safe, structured environment where residents can meet basic needs, connect with services, and work toward stability and long-term housing.
Safe Camp focuses on immediate safety, hygiene, and daily needs while connecting residents to supportive programs and community resources. Staff work closely with participants to provide guidance, build trust, and create pathways toward permanent housing and self-sufficiency.
How We Support Individuals Experiencing Homelessness
Supervised Outdoor Shelter: Safe Camp provides a secure and monitored space for unsheltered residents. Participants have access to basic facilities, including restrooms, hygiene stations, and safe sleeping areas. The program ensures residents are protected and supported, even during challenging weather conditions or poor air quality.
Meals and Essential Services: Residents receive regular meals and access to basic necessities. Staff provide resources for personal care, clothing, and other immediate needs to help individuals maintain safety and health while on-site.
Supportive Case Management: Safe Camp staff and partner agencies meet with residents individually to assess needs, provide guidance, and connect them to services both on-campus and in the community. Case management focuses on immediate stabilization, planning for permanent housing, and connecting participants with behavioral health, medical, and employment resources.
Resource Navigation and Community Connections: Residents are linked to programs across the Nevada Cares Campus, including temporary shelter, emergency services, and housing support. Staff ensure participants have access to health services, employment programs, and long-term housing opportunities, helping them transition safely toward stability.
Helping Residents Move Toward Stability
Safe Camp is a critical part of Washoe County’s coordinated approach to addressing homelessness. Every participant is met with compassion, respect, and guidance. By providing supervised shelter, essential services, and connections to community resources, Safe Camp helps unsheltered individuals move from immediate need toward long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
