Regional Governance and Coordination
A Coordinated Approach to Homelessness Across Washoe County
Washoe County Housing and Homeless Services leads regional governance and coordination efforts to ensure all programs and services work together to provide consistent, effective support for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. By guiding policy, sharing regional data, and fostering collaboration among community partners, the Division strengthens the system of care and aligns resources with the needs of those being served.
Through leadership of the Northern Nevada Continuum of Care (CoC) and partnership with national initiatives like Built for Zero, Washoe County applies data-driven strategies to improve outcomes, prevent homelessness, and promote long-term stability for residents across the region.
Our Role in Regional Collaboration
Regional Data and Policy Guidance: The Division manages and analyzes regional homelessness data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement. Policies and strategies are developed using this information to guide service providers, local agencies, and stakeholders in delivering effective and consistent care.
Northern Nevada Continuum of Care (CoC): Washoe County oversees the CoC, a collaborative network of organizations and agencies that work together to coordinate housing and support services. The CoC ensures alignment of resources, reduces duplication of efforts, and strengthens communication among partners.
Built for Zero Partnership: By participating in Built for Zero, Washoe County implements a nationally recognized approach to ending homelessness. This initiative uses real-time data, system-wide collaboration, and measurable goals to drive progress toward ending chronic homelessness in the region.
Community Homeless Advisory Board (CHAB): The CHAB is comprised of elected representatives from the City of Reno, City of Sparks, and Washoe County. The board is tasked with providing input and making recommendations on regional housing and homelessness issues. Meetings are open to the public.
Enhancing Regional Homelessness Support
Through data analysis, policy leadership, and collaboration with local and national partners, Washoe County Housing and Homeless Services enhances the regional response to homelessness. These coordinated efforts ensure resources are used effectively, gaps in service are addressed, and individuals and families across Washoe County have access to safe, stable housing and supportive services.
