Volunteer Position: Home Delivered Meal (HDM) Driver

Position Overview

The Home Delivered Meal Driver plays a vital role in supporting homebound individuals aged sixty (60) and over by ensuring they receive nutritious meals. This position reports directly to the Program Coordinator and Human Services Support Specialist II (HSSSII). The role requires reliability, confidentiality, and compassion for older adults.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pick up meals from the Senior Center prior to starting delivery routes.
  • Deliver meals to assigned recipients, ensuring accurate and timely distribution.
  • Observe each recipient’s environment and promptly report any noticeable changes or concerns to Meal Site staff.
  • Return hot and cold carrying cases to the Senior Center after completing deliveries.
  • Notify Meal Site staff as soon as possible of any schedule changes or issues.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all aspects of service and recipient information.

Strengths and Qualifications Needed

  • Dependable and responsible.
  • Sensitive to the unique needs of older adults.
  • Able to follow instructions and established delivery procedures.

Requirements

  • Participate in the Human Resources onboarding process.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to complete required training.
  • Ability to lift and carry meal containers (up to approximately 25 lbs).
  • Successful completion of required background checks.
