Regional Street Directory and Street Naming
Part of the land development process requires the naming of streets and roadways. This page includes information for street naming in the unincorporated part of Washoe County, in addition to the City of Reno and City of Sparks.
Regional Street Directory
Washoe County maintains a Regional Street Directory that includes the names of all streets and roads. The Reserved Street Names list contains names of approved street names that have yet to be officially recorded to the Regional Street Directory. Before filling out the Street Name Reservation Form, Unnamed Easement Form, or Street Renaming Form please check both lists to ensure the requested street name has not already been reserved or recorded.
Street Naming Forms
Reserve a New Street Name: Please fill out the online Street Name Reservation Form. Applicant is responsible for all sign costs. Please check the Regional Street Directory and Reserved Street Names directories to make sure requested name is unique. Once submitted, you will receive an automated reply, then the Street Naming Coordinator will contact you within 3 business days.
Name an Existing Unnamed Street or Easement: Please use the Unnamed Easement Form. (Form can be filled out electronically and printed & mailed or emailed.) There is a $100 non-refundable application fee required to accompany this application. Applicant is responsible for all sign costs. NOTE: For an unnamed private street/easement to be named, it must service at least 4 parcels and be longer than 100 feet.
Rename an Existing Street: Please use the Street Renaming Form. (Form can be filled out electronically and printed or emailed.) There is a $100 non-refundable application fee required to accompany this application. Applicant is responsible for all sign costs.
Regional Street Naming Committee
In the interest of public welfare and safety, the Regional Street Naming Committee (RSNC) is responsible for developing street naming standards, also coordinating the naming and renaming of streets and easements within Washoe County, Reno, and Sparks. The committee meets quarterly (January, April, July, and October), on the third Thursday of the month. All meetings are currently remote. The public is welcome to attend via Zoom.
