Riverbend Trailhead and Access Path

Rancho San Rafael Regional Park Master Plan
Washoe County adopted the 2024 Park Master Plan Update for Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in January 2025. The plan, founded on extensive stakeholder engagement and community outreach, presents a vision to guide future preservation, strategic development and redevelopment opportunities of the park, its facilities, open space management, accessibility, recreation programming, and amenities over the next 10-20 years. The document also identifies an implementation matrix for short, medium and long-term priorities and proposes strategies to see those priorities realized.
Some of the recommended improvements to the park include an enhanced pedestrian circulation and access plan and extended trail system, signage and wayfinding upgrades, special event parking, public art display locations, reimagining of the Nevada Farms and Families area, proposed development of a family friendly destination adventure playground, indoor tennis and pickleball facility, community amphitheater outdoor event space, expansion of the Arboretum towards North McCarran and a mini skatepark and dirt bike pump track.
Rancho San Rafael Regional Park "All-Inclusive" Playground
Washoe County Regional Parks has completed an "All-Inclusive" playground at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, replacing an existing playground to better serve the community and provide play opportunities for children of all abilities. This project is partially funded with a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant.
Regional Archery Facility Phase 1 Improvements
Washoe County Regional Parks recently received a Nevada Department of Wildlife Shooting Range grant to begin Phase 1 improvements at the Regional Archery Facility. Phase 1 improvements were based on the Regional Archery Facility Master Plan that was completed in 2019 and include a new parking lot and restrooms.
Carcione and Canepa Ranch Recreation Access Plan
The Carcione and Canepa Ranch Recreation Access Plan was approved by the Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space Commission on June 7, 2022. For more information, please review the final access plan.
Hidden Valley Master Plan Update

The Washoe County Board of County Commissioners adopted the 2022 Hidden Valley Regional Park Master Plan on June 21, 2022.
Bridge at Michael D. Thompson Trailhead
The Michael D. Thompson Trailhead bridge, installed by Sierra Trail Works in August of 2019, provides a safe, effective crossing over Hunter Creek. The bridge connects trail users to the Hunter Creek Trail, an approximately 5.7-mile out and back trail that meanders up a canyon to a beautiful waterfall.
