Commercial Animal Welfare Permit

Washoe County Code (WCC) 55.455 requires all commercial animal establishments, such as pet stores, kennels, and boarding facilities, to obtain an animal welfare permit from Washoe County Regional Animal Services (WCRAS). This code was established to give WCRAS the authority to address animal welfare complaints from the public and ensure the enforcement of recognized animal welfare principles within commercial establishments in Washoe County, including the City of Reno and the City of Sparks.

Who Needs a Permit?

This requirement applies to all commercial animal establishments within Washoe County involved in the business of buying, selling, or boarding animals overnight. This includes:

  • Pet stores
  • Kennel boarding facilities
  • Equine boarding facilities
