Representative Payee
Supporting Financial Independence for Seniors
The Representative Payee Program helps older adults manage their Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits when they are no longer able to do so themselves. Washoe County Senior Services is a Social Security-authorized organization that receives and manages benefits on behalf of eligible individuals. This service ensures that funds are used appropriately to meet the person’s current needs while responsibly saving any remaining money for future expenses.
How We Support Participants
Manage Essential Expenses: Benefits are used to pay for vital needs such as housing, utilities, medical care, food, and personal items.
Protect Independence and Wellbeing: By reducing the risk of financial mismanagement, this service helps seniors maintain stability and avoid unnecessary hardship.
Who Can Benefit
The Representative Payee Program is designed for Washoe County residents aged 60 and older who are unable to manage their Social Security or SSI benefits and do not have a trusted person available to take on this responsibility. This program is ideal for individuals who:
- Need help budgeting or organizing their finances
- Are at risk of financial exploitation or neglect
- Have cognitive or health conditions affecting their ability to manage money
Note: This is a fee-for-service program. Additional eligibility requirements or restrictions may apply based on funding and program availability.
