Earthquake Month: October 2024
Did you know Nevada is the 3rd most seismically active state in the nation?
It is more important than ever to come together in our communities to prepare for earthquakes. Washoe County Emergency Management is hosting a few fun and educational events in October. There are also some things you can do on your own. Please see below to learn more.
MOVIE NIGHT
Please join us for a special screening of Quake Heroes. Quake Heroes is a unique blend of Hollywood storytelling and real-life heroism, designed to inspire individual and community resilience in preparation for the next big earthquake. Based on true stories from America’s costliest earthquake, this film is more than just a captivating movie – it’s a reminder of the importance of community engagement. There will be popcorn with shakers, as well as door prizes. The film screening will be followed immediately by a Q&A with local seismologist William Savran!
GREAT SHAKEOUT
Great ShakeOut earthquake drills are an opportunity to practice how to be safer during earthquakes: "Drop, Cover and Hold On." ShakeOut has been organized to encourage you, your community, your school, or your organization to update emergency plans and supplies, and to secure your space in order to prevent damage and injuries.
Emergency Management encourages you to participate in your home or office at 10:17 AM on 10/17/2024. Learn more here.
