Washoe County General Improvement Districts
Washoe County General Improvement Districts (GIDs) are special districts that provide a variety of municipal-type services, such as water, sewer, trash, recreation, and road maintenance, to unincorporated communities.
GIDs are established under Nevada Revised Statute Chapter 318 and are governed by elected Boards of Trustees. They finance these services through property taxes, user fees, and other revenue sources, allowing for flexible infrastructure development and ongoing operation of facilities in areas that may not need a full range of municipal incorporation.
