Registrar of Voters

Signature Curing

Nevada election law requires the Registrar of Voters Office to compare the signature on a mail ballot return envelope with the signature or signatures in the voter’s registration record to verify the voter’s identity.

A mail ballot may be signature challenged if the return envelope is missing a signature or if the signature on the return envelope cannot be verified when compared to the signatures on file. When this happens, the ballot is placed in a rejected status and cannot be processed to be counted until the voter “cures” the ballot.

Voters can check the status of their ballot by visiting the recent Election Data page and downloading the latest “Cure Report." If the Ballot Status column shows that a ballot needs a signature cure, the voter should contact the Washoe County Registrar of Voters Office as soon as possible.

The deadline to cure a mail ballot is by 5 p.m. on the 6th day after Election Day.

Curing Your Ballot

Signature curing allows a voter to resolve an issue with the signature on their mail ballot return envelope. The signature cure process is separate from voter registration and ballot tabulation. How a ballot is marked is not part of the signature curing process.

Voters with a missing or mismatched signature may cure their ballot using one of the following methods:

  • Call the Registrar of Voters Office: Call (775) 328-3670.
  • Visit the Registrar of Voters Office: Visit 1001 E. Ninth St., Reno, NV 89512.
  • Text to cure: Text “Washoe” to 28683 and follow the link in the response.
  • Use InCode: Scan the QR code provided in your signature cure letter or visit washoecounty.gov/ballotcure.
  • Respond to the letter: Complete, sign and return the Mail Ballot Cure Affidavit Form included with your notice.

Completed affidavit forms may be returned by email, fax, mail or delivery:

  • Mail or delivery: 1001 E. Ninth St., Reno, NV 89512
