Reason for seeking position:
My prime reason for seeking this open position in the State Board of Education is my passion for all types of education. We need to elevate the literacy rate of our students. A 2023 survey of the most educated states in the country places the State of Nevada at 43rd out of 50. There is no question that we need to do better and look for innovative ways to engage and support our students in achieving student success in the performance of their academic goals. Many Nevada students are currently engaging in dual credits that allow public school students to take college courses while still in high school which is a wonderful program. The fact that I am a long-standing TMCC Community College professor and also a long-standing University of Nevada, Las Vegas professor involved in this program allows me a unique perspective to assist the highly esteemed current State Board Members on the Nevada State Board of Education.
