Previously served on Audit Committee of IVGID
Reason for seeking position:
I decided to run for the IVGID Board because I believe the current Board majority has taken IVGID down a path that’s negatively affecting residents and employees. IVGID’s had a long-standing successful and proven model of managing recreational venues as a portfolio of mutually reliant and sustaining venues, supported by a nominal recreational fee. I moved to Incline in large part because of that model. Unfortunately, the Board majority has recently moved away from this model. Their decisions reflect an operating model view that individual venues must stand on their own.

At the same time, they’ve risked the sustainability of the facilities by stripping many of them of much needed recreational fees for upkeep, improvement, and expansion.

These actions, along with making decisions to reduce employee benefits, micromanaging IVGID staff and usurping the authority of seasoned professionals, has eroded staff moral and created a toxic work environment, leading to dangerous and unprecedented departures of senior staff across virtually all functions.

My background and skills, combined with my position on key issues impacting IVGID, its residents and employees, will help put IVGID back on the right track and heal the scars that have developed between the BOT and its employees and residents. My background with a very successful global business has given me a bias for action as opposed to the paralysis we’ve seen from recent Trustees.

I will advocate for fiscally responsible investment in utility and recreational facilities and programs to make our community an attractive place to live, work and invest. I’ll advocate for a recreational model that’s made the community successful, one that manages and optimizes the facilities as a portfolio for the benefit of the community and its residents as a whole. I’ll prioritize rebuilding and investing in IVGID staff, making IVGID an employer of choice, and an attractive place to start and develop a successful career. More specifically:
• An operating model where Trustees operate in an oversite role, partnering with the GM to develop clear annual and longer-term strategic priorities and then giving staff the authority and autonomy to execute those priorities and plans.
• The rebuilding of IVGID staff back into a high-performance organization, making IVGID an employer of choice - an attractive place to start and develop a successful career.
• Proactive, smart investment in utility and recreational facilities to enhance the quality of life for residents and employees. I’ll prioritize completion of the affluent pipeline and replacement of aged and dysfunctional recreational facilities.
• The view that we are a common interest community - that recreational venues are made available primarily for the benefit of the community as a whole.
• A “portfolio” approach to managing our recreational facilities as a mutually reliant and sustaining set of venues at the total District level that prioritizes residents, their guests, and employees.
• A Board that partners with and is accountable to the residents and other property owners, including judicious use of meetings, committees, and public forums to seek input on key matters.
