Reason for seeking position:
I am the Vice Mayor of Reno and a Reno Councilmember for Ward 2.
I am in office to serve Nevadans - period. You matter to me!

I am currently in my third and final term on the City Council. What distinguishes me from others is my scientific training, broad experience, consensus building skills, and commitment to public service. I know how to get things done.

I have led important community projects including the Moana Pool, Virginia Street Bridge replacement, increasing our tree canopy, and improvements to Virginia Lake.

I am known to be accessible and responsive. I answer my phone and return my emails. My constituents call me "the Do-er'!

By way of background, I am a water scientist. I served the public as the Nevada State Water Planner producing the acclaimed State Water Plan. In this role I also served as the official Water Policy Adviser to the Legislature. I have drafted and successfully advocated for more than 10 pieces of legislation.

My top priorities in the Senate include:

● Women's Reproductive Rights:
I, myself, have experienced fertility challenges and the heartbreak of multiple miscarriages. We must assure women's reproductive freedom. It is my top priority.

● Healthcare:
I have long advocated for mental health resources and seek to increase access to quality and affordable healthcare for all, including lower prescription costs.

● Affordable Housing:
I have advocated for and supported every affordable housing project initiative in Reno for the last 10 years, including millions of dollars to create and subsidize affordable housing projects. These efforts resulted in thousands of new units, tiny homes, dorm rooms, and converted motels in Reno. I expect to continue advocating for lower rents and tenant protections, while increasing housing stock.

● Climate Change, Water and the Environment: Reno is the fastest warming city in the country and Las Vegas is the second. My goals are to combat climate change by increasing Nevada's tree canopy, supporting energy efficient buildings, and continuing to advocate for roof-top solar and geothermal energy. I have extensive experience in this area, winning Nevada’s top environmental award twice.

Of note, as a Councilmember, I have championed numerous environmental initiatives to address climate change such as ReLEAF Reno (designed to double the trees in Reno), and have achieved many firsts, including the:
- first community solar project,
- first pesticide-free parks,
- first haz- and e-waste recycling,
- first geothermal franchise.

● Seniors and Veterans - I am a strong advocate for seniors and veterans, helping to keep them housed and healthy, and their rents affordable. I will keep fighting for our vulnerable populations.

● Special Projects: I am seeking to spearhead development of a Veterinary School in Nevada and to address the ongoing challenges with DMV.

I am endorsed by 314 Action (STEM Scientists), Reno Firefighters, Teamsters, Culinary Workers, Operating Engineers and others. However, the endorsement I most seek is yours. I encourage you to "Elect a Do-er" to the Nevada State Senate!
