Reason for seeking position:
Hello, I’m Jennifer Richards. I am a lifelong Nevadan born and raised in Reno, mother to two young children, legal aid lawyer, and proud first-generation college graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno. Go Pack!
I’ve spent over a decade in public service – working to increase access to justice for the most vulnerable in our community. I'm running a grassroots campaign supported by the people.
I have a wide range of experience in both civil and criminal law and the professional distinction of arguing before a full panel of the Nevada Supreme Court. I've worked at every level of our judicial system, and I serve as a Judge Pro Tempore for Washoe County. I was voted a 2024 Top Lawyer in Nevada by my colleagues.
I held the gubernatorial appointed office of Chief Rights Attorney for the State of Nevada. During my time in office, I worked to expand access to legal services with innovative projects such as the Legal Kiosk Project in local libraries across the state. I authored legislation creating our Vulnerable Adult Fatality Review Committee which addresses systemic gaps to improve adult maltreatment and abuse in Nevada against older adults and persons with disabilities.
In my spare time, I wrote the law requiring all Nevada courthouses to contain lactation rooms, further solidifying a proven track record for increasing inclusivity and access to our courts.
I believe in justice beyond the court room, which is why I regularly volunteer my time helping our veterans through an OMLA event, Lawyer in the Library, or doing a pro bono legal case. I have previously been awarded Pro Bono Volunteer of the Year and received other local and national recognition.
I'm proudly endorsed by hardworking families including our healthcare workers, teachers, building and trades workers, plumbers, electricians, law enforcement, culinary and bartenders, labor, and more.
I care about people and I care about our community. I want to make sure that everyone gets a fair shake and has access to our Justice Courts. I'm ready to take the next step and serve the community as your next Reno Justice Court Judge.
I hope that I can earn your support. Please join me so we can build a better bench! Visit my website at www.votejenniferrichards.com to learn more or email me at jennifer@votejenniferrichards.com.
